In college, getting a grade of D means you will not get credit for the class even though you passed. Of course doing well in college means doing all of the assigned work and getting good grades on all the exams. But what are some of the other things you can do to maintain good grades in college. Let’s look at a few:

Do not get hung up on details. For example, you cannot read every word in a chapter. When you take notes during class lectures, write down only the important points. Most of the time in college, what the professor lectures on is what is important.

Maintaining good grades in college by studying where you will not be disturbed. That means turn off the television if you are the only person in the room. There are some people that can study with the headphones on and there are those that can’t. You will be able to tell if you are grasping the material when studying with music.

In the case of mathematics, maintaining good grades in this subject requires practice. The only way to get through college math exams is to practice many problems beforehand. When working problems, make sure you write out each step so that the process will be memorized before taking the exam.

Don’t study in bed. This is because more than likely you will fall asleep. Sleep is important to maintaining college grades however you want to make sure you get good uninterrupted sleep. But you don’t want to sleep when you need to get your studying done or have an assignment to finish and turn in.

Stay organized. Maintaining good college grades is easier when you can find and reference material at the point and time you need it. First of all, you should get a folder for each class you have. Make sure when you take notes, that you put a date on each page and number the page. It is helpful when studying for exams that you can reference only the notes for the coverage period of the test.

Know when a class is too much for you. There are two dates that you need to remember for any class in college. There is a date to withdraw where you can get a refund and then there is a date to withdraw where you get only a “W” on your grade report. Usually the date to get a full refund is early in the semester and the other date is around the 65% into the semester period. Maintaining good grades in college requires knowing when to quit while you are ahead. You will know when a class is over your head or you think you might have problems with a professor’s style of teaching.

Don’t take too many classes. If you are overloaded then maintaining good grades in college will be tough. Most students can handle 12 credit hours per semester (four classes). Some can handle 15 credit hours. You have to look at all of your responsibilities external to school.
